CyberChess is a futuristic chess game that uses standard chess rules with ranked and unranked AI or online play, featuring persistent progression through rating (ELO) and ranks. Select your configuration, choose your side, then start the match. Battle it out!
Protect your King while attacking the enemy King. Victory is achieved by checkmate: the enemy King is in check and has no legal escape. While material advantage is important, remember that checkmating the enemy King is the only way to win.
Each chess piece has its own movement rules. Select a piece to display its available moves. Pawns may promote when they reach the opposite side of the board.
Castling, en passant captures, promotion and stalemate are enabled. A stalemate occurs when a player has no legal moves while their King is not in check.
To leave Cyberchess and return to the main landing page for Cyberchess Portal games, you can simply click the Cyberchess logo in the top left-end corner of your screen (computers) or at the top of your screen (phones and tablet devices).
Tooltips can be turned on or off by clicking the tooltips button right under the sound mixer. To inspect a piece, you can hover your mouse over it for a second. On mobile devices you can long-press any piece on the board to inspect it.
Guests may play Unranked vs AI. Registered players can access ranked AI and online PvP modes. Ranked AI uses competitive profiles rather than experimental AI personalities.
AI search strength increases with rating. Higher-rated opponents calculate deeper and may require considerably more time to complete difficult turns. At Depth 5, the AI may calculate up to 5 million potential positions. Depending on your hardware, some turns may take up to 25 seconds to compute.
Rating gains and losses depend partly on the relative rating of both opponents. Chess AI and online PvP maintain separate ranked progression.
